Morrissey - Bob Hope Theatre, Stockton, CA

Morrissey began what is beginning to be known as his "Greatest Hits" tour in Stockton, CA last night. The set list was more of a mix of old and new than his previous tour's set list.

Surprising additions include: "The Queen Is Dead," "Lucky Lisp" and "The Boy With A Thorn In His Side." The new song, "All You Need Is Me" made an appearance as well.

The show ended when a fan rushed the stage during "First Of The Gang To Die," in which Morrissey's shirt and chain were ripped of by an overzealous fan...

Rumour has it that the show would have continued if this didn't happen and that "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" would have been the next and final song of the set list.

The setlist was as follows:
The Queen Is Dead
Irish Blood English Heart
In The Future When All's Well
I Just Want To See The Boy Happy
Disappointed
Suedehead
All You Need Is Me
Let Me Kiss You
Lucky Lisp
The National Front Disco
How Soon Is Now?
You Have Killed Me
I've Changed My Plea To Guilty
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
Everyday Is Like Sunday
Ganglord
I Will See You In Far Off Places
Life Is A Pigsty
Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want

Encore:
You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side
First Of The Gang To Die

New Sigur Ros...

It appears that Sigur Ros has a busy time ahead according to NME.com. A book documenting their free concert series across their native Iceland will be released on June 1st. In a Frozen Sea, will contain photographs taken of that cross country trek that found them performing in places urban and rural as well as large and very small venues. A limited edition of the book will contain several of the bands full albums on 12" records, including Smaskifa, which has been re-released for the first time for this project.

It is also indicated that there will an EP released near the end of this Summer with a full acoustic album to be released in the Fall.

Great Richard Ashcroft Footage

Everyone has known about YouTube for a long time now, but there are just some bands/people, that I had totally overlooked in looking them up. Richard Ashcroft is one of those people. My friend DP pointed me in the right direction the other day...

Science of Silence - Live at Rockpalast.
By far my favorite Ashcroft solo song
(Notice how his intro music is a remix of "Check the Meaning" - amazing...)

"Check The Meaning" - Live
"I'm Like a fish with legs, I fell from the tree."

Bonus - Chemical Brothers - "The Test" feat. Richard Ashcroft
Awesome Chemical Brothers song with Ashcroft's vocals
"Did I pass the acid test?"

This Is What KLF Is About. Also Known As The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu. Furthermore Known As The JAMM.

I have just recently rediscovered the KLF's The White Room. The fact that I haven't listen to this album in like 10 years baffles me. It really is as good as I first remember it with unbelievable jams such as "3Am Eternal" and "Last Train To Trancentral."

Now, the KLF had a ridiculous past in the music industry. Although they had little impact in the US, the British Duo of Bill Drummond (King Boy D) and Jimmy Cauty (Rockman Rock) had an interesting and somewhat shocking career as the KLF. They were one of the first big bands of the Rave scene in the UK. (A good move on the rise of that scene, even though there is no mention of the KLF, is 24 Hour Party People. This movie is worth a watch).

One of the great stories I remember about them is when upon receiving a cease and desist order from ABBA for sampling "Dancing Queen." Instead of complying with the order they decided to travel to Sweden with an NME reporter in hand to confront ABBA to convince them to allow them to use the sample. Along with the NME reporter, the duo brought along all known copies of that single that they had pressed with them. They were ultimately unsuccessful in meeting with ABBA so in protest they took the albums and burned them in a field in Sweden. They then took the remaining records and dumped them off of a ferry in the North Sea. Amazing...

Another story is how they ultimately retired. The KLF were always "anti-establishment" and "anti-music industry" so many were shocked to hear that they agreed to perform at the 1992 Brit Awards. Along with Drummond and Cauty, the hard core band Extreme Noise Terror, played a rendition of "3am Eternal." During the performance Drummond loaded a real machine gun and fired a whole round of blanks at a terrified crowd. The original plan was to also throw buckets of sheep blood at the crowd, but the blood was confiscated before they were able to go through with the act by Brit Award security. At the end of the performance, they had a member of their entourage hijack the PA system of the theater and announced, "The KLF have now left the music business." The announcement wasn't truly believed at that time, but a week or two later Drummond destroyed all of the master tapes and back catalogue of any KLF material that existed. That makes it difficult for any remastered new releases of any of their material...

Their most noted antic would be the time they decided for the sake of art they would burn the remaining 1,000,000 pounds they had left in earnings from their days as the KLF. This was to give notoriety to their newly established K Foundation which was to give a prize annually to the worst artist of the year.

Here are some of singles off of The White Room...

As for the discrepancy between Morrissey playing the Theatre at Madison Square Garden or the Arena itself, my hunch is that it is going to be the Arena. The seating chart shown on ticketmaster shows the layout for the arena. Also, the word "Theatre" has never been mentioned on True-To-You.net.

UFOs At The Zoo - Out In July

UFOs at The Zoo, the live concert recorded at the Oklahoma City Zoo, by the Flaming Lips will be released on July 10th.

This will expose those who haven't seen the Flaming Lips live, to their ridiculous stage show. Possibly the best I have ever seen. For example, their shows include multiple confetti launchers, dancing aliens and frontman Wayne Coyne crowd surfing in a giant bubble. Strong visuals...

The DVD will include extra features, including a program that you can use to create Flaming Lips ring tones. Interesting.

Also, I have heard that the DVD will include the MP3s of the performance so that you can take this great live show to go...

Ryan Adams' Stonehedge Show Called Off

Ryan Adams' date at the Salisbury International Arts Festival has been cancelled. Concert and Art Festival promoters are concerned about the draw being too large for this venue.

Essentially, it seems that Ryan Adams rocks too much for Stonehenge and they are worried about too many people showing up and messing the archaeological monument up...

They're probably right, it wouldn't be good for people to show up and etch their names into the rock with things like "The Guru Was Here."

No mention of a alternate site for the concert as of yet...

Also this years event will be "child friendly" with a Kidapalooza segment of the festival. Young children are awaiting the announcement of their lineup as it has not been announced yet. I mean it is Lollapalooza so they will have to go big... Will it be the Wiggles?? Oh and don't forget to visit the "Rock and Roll Petting Zoo" while you are there. The kicker is the Kidapalooza part will be free for children 10 years and under.

Noel Gallagher Solo Project / Oasis' Next Album

Noel has been quoted in the NME about the idea of a solo album. Finally...

"I've actually got a backlog of songs that are slowly building up. The thing about a solo record is the time to do one is between Oasis world tours because you'd have a good couple of years.

"But it takes me so long to write the songs that eventually I run out of time (before Oasis begins again), but I've got a backlog now of about four or five songs which are probably too far in the past as far as the band in concerned, but which could work on my record... it's coming."

Also, Noel weighed in on Oasis' next album:

"The next one in theory is already fucking written. I've got eight songs that I'm pretty happy with. I think Liam's got one or two that he thinks are brilliant. We're waiting for Gem and Andy. It's just a case of sitting down and saying, 'When do we want to do this?'"
Its great to finally see the gears are set in motion for Noel's solo album even if it is just a dream for now...

Also, funny how he speaks of Liam's songs as only Liam thinks they are brilliant. Funny stuff...

Should be a good couple years ahead for the brothers Gallagher...

NME has reported that guest appearances will include: The Strokes' Julian Casablancas, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and regular contributor Mark Lanegan.

It is really good to hear that Mark Lanegan will be involved with the new album. After the way things ended between Mark and Josh Homme after last tour, I honestly thought that was it for the two. I can't wait to hear some more of their collaborations in the near future...
