Starbucks Rumor Debunked

Story at NME.com:

Glad to see that this story seems to clear up the air on these recent rumors...
Radiohead have poured hot water on rumours that they are set to sign for Starbucks' record label Hear Music.

Talk of the highly improbable pairing originated on the internet after someone from the band's representatives Courtyard Management was apparently seen meeting recently with representatives of the coffee giant in London, according to BBC6 Music.
The management company has now issued the following statement denying any link-up.

"Radiohead are currently in the studio working on their next record. They are not negotiating a new record deal with anyone, and will not even consider how to release their new music until the album is finished.

"The rumour that they are about to sign with Starbucks is totally untrue."

Radiohead/Starbucks Story Possibly False

Radiohead fan site, Green Plastic Radiohead, has claimed that the NY Post Radiohead story in which it is alleged that they could possibly be signing with the newly founded Starbucks Record Label, is false.

Interestingly, there is no link or proof to support their denouncement of the story. The site only claims that they have received "confirmation" that the story is "completely false."

The NY Post publishing celebrity smut and lies?? Never....

Being that this information comes from as official of a source as it gets now a days in regards to Morrissey, the info should be accurate.

Hopefully the ticket ordeal will not become a fiasco as it did in his last tour in England where tickets for most if not all shows were gone within minutes and immediately placed on Ebay for exorbitant prices...

Why Delay The Inevitable?

Noel Gallagher in an NME interview has asked (whether jokingly or not) to play Glastonbury as a solo act.
In the interview he is quoted as saying, "Playing the acoustic stuff at the festivals, that would be good," admitted Gallagher. "Actually, Glastonbury acoustic tent sounds nice! That would be good. Yeah, do us a favour stick that in and Mr. Eavis will give me a call!"

Is this the inevitable solo career that many of us have been waiting for out of Noel? Don't get me wrong, it wouldn't be the same without Liam but, we all know who the brains and creativity is behind Oasis' success.

Now that Noel is excited to play more and more as a solo act, is there a solo album on the horizon? Only time will tell...

Radiohead Rumored to be Courted by Starbucks

According to the NY Daily News last week, Radiohead is being sought out by Starbucks to be the second release by their newly founded record label.
Recently, Sir Paul McCartney released the label's first album earlier this month.

This is sort of disturbing news for me. I think the band should take the route they were rumoured to have been doing in the first place and that is releasing their new material under their own label that they can create themselves. A lot of established artists are doing this lately and in doing this, Yorke and crew can call their own shots (something that was bothering them about their previous label).

Radiohead being associated with the whole Starbucks family of products doesn't seem to sit right with me. Sir Paul I can see (which is not a negative thing) joining and being successful with this venture. Radiohead would have a lot of questions to answer if they went through with this...

Noel Gallagher Covers "There Is A Light..."

Noel Gallagher last night performed in Moscow Russia with Gem Archer and Terry Kirkbride in a semi-acoustic gig.
Reports have been that Noel performed "There Is A Light And It Never Goes Out" for the first time live.

I'm going to have to scour around to find a recording of this. If anyone knows where to find one let me know!

New Morrissey Tour Date

A new tour date was announced for Morrissey's upcoming US tour. According to True-To-You.net, Morrissey will be appearing at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California on Sunday, June 10th.

This venue will be another arena in a tour that ranges from Arenas, like MSG, to Lounges, like the Celebrity Showroom in Sparks, NV. Unlike most tours where an artist will play similar venues in different cities, Morrissey's management has chosen venues all over the board, in regards to size and capacity. It would be interesting to hear an explanation of how they came up with this plan...

Also, unfortunately, there is still plenty of confusion and conflicting information of how and when ticket sales will take place. True-To-You.net, which has been for the past few years considered to be the "official" news site for Morrissey, announced that tickets will go on sale March 31st with the exception of the Oakland date, which was to go on sale on April 1st. Ticketmaster has only a handful of dates posted with on sale dates which range from March 28th to March 31st, while Pollstar has more dates listed than Ticketmaster, but still not a complete list. Some of these shows also have pre-sales listed as a means to buy tickets. There has been no announcement by anyone in the Morrissey camp of how to access these pre-sales, frustrating many fans.

This problem needs to (and should) be remedied soon...stay posted...

Mew - Paradise - Boston, March 23

Mew played last night at the Paradise here in Boston. I've said it a million times and I will say it again, the Paradise is my favorite venue in Boston. Period. The fact that you can be so close, no matter where you are in the venue is incredible. It is a very intimate venue and it makes for great energy for any show.

I was a little worried at first that Jonas Bjerre's voice would not sound as good live as it does on the studio recordings. I was definitely wrong. His voice was amazing live as his falsetto style was near perfect.

Mew played a good mix of their current album And The Glass Handed Kites, and their previous album Frengers, which was released in 2003, but in the United States it was released this past month. Songs like "Am I Wry? No." and "Zookeeper's Boy" were well received and of course their current single "Special" received a warm welcome at the beginning of their encore. If you are a fan of And The Glass Handed Kites, you will also enjoy Frengers as it has songs with similar stylings.

This band musically is as tight as it gets. Mew does a great job of creating subtle calm moods at a opening of a song then completely destroying that and blowing you away by the time you get to the first chorus only to be able to have the control to bring that mood right back down again.

Mew was happy to finally play to their own crowd here in Boston, as the past few times they have been here, was in support of other artists such as Kasabian. Guitarist Bo Madsen said that the band were fond of Boston, being that the producer for their first album was from Boston and that they always received a warm welcome when performing here.

If you had to categorize them (which I loathe doing), you would have to say they were somewhere in the "Art-Rock/Prog Rock" realm in the current state of rock music. All-Music Guide calls them "Space-Pop," whatever that means...

If they are coming around to your town anytime soon, I highly suggest seeing these guys live.

For more info on Mew visit their site here.

Does This Mean I Am Going To Have To Buy Timberlake's Next Album?

Timbaland, who has been Justin Timberlake's producer, has stated he wants Timberlake's new album to sound like The Rapture.

Timberlake and Timbaland are both huge fans of the song "House of Jealous Lovers" off of The Rapture's album Echoes. Timberlake actually comes out to this song as his entrance music for his current tour.

As embarrassing as it is, it is getting harder and harder not to like Timberlake's music. I mean Timbaland has always had fantastic beats. He is the only thing that made Missy Elliott even remotely listenable to me. If Timbaland comes through with a "Rapture-like" album for Timberlake's next album, I just might have to actually check it out.

Timbaland has been a fan of recent "alt-rock" music. He has been quoted numerous times already in his desire to work with Chris Martin and Coldplay, has produced for Beck, and on his current album of his own Shock Value, Timbaland works with, (of all people), The Hives!

Amiina - Release An LP And Go On Tour...

The 4 piece orchestral/random instrument group from Iceland has released a full length LP, Kurr, on their label, Bláskjár Records.

If you have seen Sigur Ros in the past couple years you would remember them as the opening act and then as the backing orchestral section for Sigur Ros' set.

Besides strings Amiina incorporate many unconventional instruments such as: a saw, drinking glasses, music boxes, toy pianos, etc.

Really different stuff, I to thought it was wierd at first, but then after seeing them open for Sigur Ros the second time I was hooked. Their music is great ambiance music for any setting...

Also they are currently touring. Sólrún, María, Edda, and Hildur will be travelling to:

03-21 Madison, WI - Café Montmartre
03-22 Minneapolis, MN - Varsity Theatre
03-23 Chicago, IL - Lakeshore Theatre
03-25 Cleveland, OH - Cambridge Room at House of Blues
03-26 Detroit, MI - Magic Bag
03-27 Toronto, Ontario - Rivoli
03-28 Montreal, Quebec - Le National
03-30 Philadelphia, PA - World Cafe Live
03-31 Boston, MA - The Remis Museum of Fine Arts
04-01 Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
04-02 New York, NY - Good Shepherd Faith Church
04-05 Cincinnati, OH - Memorial Hall (MusicNow Festival)
04-06 Cincinnati, OH - Memorial Hall (MusicNow Festival)
04-09 Seattle, WA - Triple Door
04-10 Portland, OR - Doug Fir Lounge
04-12 San Francisco, CA - Swedish American Hall
04-13 Los Angeles, CA - Silent Movie Theatre
04-14 San Diego, CA - House of Blues (5th Avenue Stage)

Their new album can be streamed and purchased here.

Very interesting choice of cities and venues. It seems like he is all over the board on this announced tour, playing venues large and small. Also, cities like Knoxville, Tennessee and Northampton, Massachusetts are pleasant surprises.

It looks like this confirms that Morrissey will be playing the arena at MSG and not the theatre.

Now if we can only get a definitive answer when these tickets will be going on sale...

Yoshimi Attempts To Become A Musical

The rumor on the street is that the Flaming Lips' 2002 album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots is one step closer to becoming a musical.

In the last few days there has been multiple reports that the writer for this project will be Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin is known for his work on NBC's The West Wing and Studio 60 (which was recently canceled).

This is very interesting, strange and exciting news. If they are actually going to go through with this, they really need to do it right. If they keep Wayne Coyne involved with the project, I'm sure justice will be served to the artistic concept of the production.

Sadly, still no word on the release of the feature film Christmas on Mars which has been rumored to be released since Christmas 2003.

A blurb about the Yoshimi project from RollingStone.com can be read here.
Shoutmouth also had an article about this here.

Pete Yorn - Avalon, Boston 3/19

Check him off the list, I have finally seen Pete Yorn live.

Yorn put on a great show on his stop in Boston for his Morning, Day and Night tour.

The setlist spanned all three albums, with a few covers intermixed. My favorite cover by Yorn (besides "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out," which he sadly didn't play), The Association's, "Never My Love" was an excellent treat. Yorn has an EP titled Westerns which unfortunately is only available at his live shows. If you can get your hands on a copy of this, I would highly recommend it. Besides "Never My Love," the EP includes the Ryan Adams-esque, "The Man." Another great tune and worth a listen.

Yorn's main set was sprinkled with fan favorites "Burrito" and a really neat stripped down version of "Strange Condition" which almost made it sound like a completely different song than the album version, all the while it was right on point. It appears that "Burrito" was not on the original set list, but Yorn, known to take requests and please a crowd, played it towards the end of his main set.

I really respect the fact that, like Noel Gallagher, Yorn completely resigns to the fact that he takes some of his best riffs are completely taken from some of his favorite artists. He has been noted to say that he is usually accused of ripping off Cat Stevens in his song "Crystal Village." His response to that is, "that is completely ridiculous, it's clearly a rip off of "Shes a Jar" by Wilco." Also, he tweaked the riff from Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's take on "Hallelujah" to make "Just Another." It's great when artists can take what they like and repackage it into something completely different and have the guts to just say "yeah I borrowed that riff, because I love it."

Yorn's band consisted of Joe Kennedy, who has toured with him now for over 6 years and the opening band Minibar. Minibar consisted of great musicians that were really able to do all the music great justice. They also eerily looked like Pete Yorn clones...

According to Peteyorn.com the set list was as follows, although it doesn't include Burrito:

For Nancy
For Us
Strange Condition
Alive
Long Way Down
Just Another
Undercover
Closet
The Man
Never My Love (The Association)
Maybe I'm Right
Dead Flowers (The Rolling Stones)
Policies
Little Surfer (The Beach Boys)
Murray

Encore:
Lose You
Splendid Isolation (Warren Zevon)
Life on a Chain
Crystal Village

The EP Westerns can be previewed here at Vedderfreak12's blog...

Note: Apparently Joe Kennedy's bag was stolen backstage at the Electric Factory in Philly. He has posted this message on Yorn's message board.

Hello all.

My laptop bag was stolen from the dressing room in the Electric Factory on March 17. That bag had my entire life in it-- laptop, iPod, passport, house keys, checkbook, MBox, and worst of all my firewire drive, which contains the entire record I'm working on and all of my personal photos from the last four years. Much of the data is backed up, but some of it isn't.

There were a lot of people backstage that night due to the extremely lax security at the Electric Factory. The bag was stolen by either:

A. An employee of the Electric Factory, or
B. A concertgoer and presumed "fan" of Pete Yorn

I know lots of my MySpace friends are PY fans, and some of you were at the Electric Factory that night. If anybody sees this message and either has my bag or knows someone who does, please contact me here at MySpace. If you want to contact me through a third party, that is fine-- I will make arrangements to retrieve the bag without pressing charges and I will ask no further questions. If I get the bag back intact, I'm prepared to pay a handsome reward.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Morrissey's Band Lineup for Upcoming US Tour

A posting on True-To-You.net has listed the band lineup as follows:

Boz Boorer (guitar)
Jesse Tobias (guitar)
Michael Farrell (keyboards, trumpet)
Solomon Walker (bass guitar)
Matt Walker (drums).

This means that of the longtime Morrissey "colaborators" only Boz remains on tour with him.

There has still been no real explanation on what exactly happened to bassist Gary Day and why he is no longer touring with Morrissey.

Guitarist Alain Whyte left touring with Morrissey during the You Are The Quarry tour.

Ticket Sale Date/Lounge Show - Morrissey

According to True-To-You.net, tickets for the announced leg of the US tour will go on sale on March 31st. The one exception are tickets for the Oakland date which goes on sale on April 1st.

A bit more details on the Sparks, NV show...

It seems like this show is literally a "lounge" like show at the John Ascuaga's Nugget - Celebrity Showroom. The capacity for this venue was reported to be capped at 700. Not only is this going to be a small show, but the seats are all tables. This set up for a Morrissey show seems absolutely ridiculous, but he's so eccentric that he might love this idea.

To me it almost seems too strange that he would be playing such a random date at a random casino, none the less in a lounge. Buy your tickets early, but make sure you're aware of their refund policy. Unfortunately, Mozzer is famous for backing out at the last minute...

Cornell Announces Solo Dates

Chris Cornell has announced 3 solo dates in April.

These are the first shows for Cornell since the split with Audioslave about a month ago.

Although I have never seen him perform in a solo-show, I can say that I have been told that he never disappoints when touring solo.

The dates announced as of yet are:
Toronto - The Phoenix: April 14
Boston - Avalon: April 19
Philadelphia - Theatre of Living Arts: April 22

Cornell's album Carry On is still set for release on April 30.

Maybe I will finally get a chance to hear his version of Billy Jean live!!

Morrissey Tour Dates - Update

Well the Morrissey camp has not come through as delivered although they have announced 2 dates of the 40 that were promised.

According to True-To-You.net, Morrissey will be appear at the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, June 8th and the Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 30.

I am wondering if this may be a typo and that he may be appearing at the Nokia Theatre at the Madison Square Garden and not the arena. Although, it would be amazing to see him in such a large space with fellow Moz fans.

Tickets are now said to be available within the next 2 weeks instead of the original date of March 17th.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for more information soon...

Was I Fired? Charlotte Hatherley Wonders...

Charlotte Hatherley, formally of the fantastic band Ash, has commented that shes not so sure that it was a mutual split when she left the band recently.

It is still her contention that the band and her were going in different directions musically and that, the "boys" as she called them, were leaning towards an American musical influence, when she was not.

She went on to say that although the split was amicable, she feels like the band wanted to go back to being a 3 piece, meaning continuing on without her...

American musical influence?? This worries me. Let's hope this means something positive and not that Ash is going to begin to start sounding like Hinder or something...

I've already lost Our Lady Peace because they moved in "that direction," I'm not going to lose you too Ash...

The article on Charlotte can be found here.

What a Cop Out

According to NME, Eddie Van Halen has checked himself into the ever popular rehab.

It has been known for years that Van Halen has been battling alcoholism, but this stint in rehab just seems too planned, if that makes any sense.

Van Halen, the band, is scheduled to be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, March 12. As the date approaches, it has been debated for weeks on who exactly is going to show to accept this award. The last year has been tumultuous for this band as: a world tour was announced then postponed indefinitely, David Lee Roth was hired and fired once again, and the shocker of all, Bassist Michael Anthony was fired and then replaced with Eddie Van Halen's 15 year old son, Wolfgang. There were reports that all members would be present and reports that the Van Halen's would be sitting the ceremony out.

It looks like now, with Eddie Van Halen heading to rehab, the question has been answered.

There will still be no Van Halen/Hagar/Diamond Dave reunion anytime soon...

Unreleased Jimmy Page Riff to be Unlocked to Save Rock and Roll

This is a funny article from the Onion on how an unreleased Jimmy Page riff is locked away in some secret vault in Wales and it must be released on society to save rock.

Apparently the record is recorded on cobalt...haha

My favorite quote of the article is from Brian May of Queen: "May God have mercy on our souls for what we are going to set loose upon the world"

Ahh, if only it were true...

Check out the article here.

Thanks to my friend Jessie for this one...

Drawing Thom Yorke

This is a cool video off of YouTube of an artist's drawing of Thom Yorke set to Radiohead music.

It's pretty amazing how good the final product looks and what goes into creating art on a comupter.

I think this program is a little more intense than Microsoft Paint...

My Morning Jacket At A Prom?

My Morning Jacket has played 2 nights at the 40 Watts Club in Athens GA.

This gig was not like any other gig however as these 2 dates at the 40 Watts were given a "Under The Sea" prom theme.

The club was decked out in "Under The Sea" like decorations and complete with a photographer who would take pictures and put them in a MMJ sleeve so that you and your date could commemorate the event...

"Proper attire" was mandatory, meaning everything from tuxedos to robot costumes. I still don't get the robot costumes part...

Here is a review of the gig by Rolling Stone...

Ryan Adams Live at Stonehenge?

This is some bizarre news I pulled off of Pitchfork.

Apparently Ryan Adams is scheduled to play at Stonehenge in England on June 5th as part of the Salisbury International Art Festival.

This is just flat out weird. But then again it is Ryan Adams.

I tried to confirm this on his site, but of course it is almost impossible to find anything serious on it.

Rankings For The Best Albums Of All Time

These polls are always wrong. At least to me...

There are always albums that are completely irrelevant that are included and essential albums that are completely over looked.

To be honest polls like this should just be banned. All they really do is cause me to get angry...

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tried to rank the top 200 albums of all time. Of course in my opinion they failed miserably in doing so. So what does Rolling Stone Magazine try to do? They come out with their own poll. At least they addressed some major issues with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame poll, but they still screwed it up.

The truth is there will never be a right answer or way to do these polls correctly...

Here are links to the 2 polls to get your blood boiling...

Queens Of The Stone Age Studio Footage

This is a clip of QOTSA in the studio recording a song for their upcoming album Era Vulgaris.

This track sounds like it is going to be fantastic!

Still no real word on when this album is going to come out, but at least we now have footage that work is actually being done.

True-to-you.net has announced that dates for Morrissey's 40 date upcoming tour will be announced sometime this week.

The posting on the fansite, which has direct contact with the man himself, states that the tour will begin in Stockton, CA at the Bob Hope Theatre on April 27th.

Looks like this means the eastcost will be later on into the summer. Which will be fine with me as long as he shows up!

This will be Pearl Jam's first appearance with Lollapalooza since their legendary jaunt with the festival in 1992.
